Forthright discussion of the pro and cons of having a

Blogs

I am no longer posting links to pro-casino blogs on Casino-Friend because, while some found this a convenience, they are not under my control and I do not have the time nor inclination to monitor them, and the comments their readers add to them, to assure they meet my own standards for what would be acceptable on Casino-Friend.

While I saw nothing on the blogs I had links to that was so objectionable I'd have deleted it from Casino-Friend , after looking over the blogs and comments on the blogs which are a popular feature of the CasinoFacts.org website, I saw rhetoric that I would never publish on this website.

Granted the writers of these blogs are mostly preaching to their particular choir, but some of them choose to use vicious humor or just nasty names to insult those with whom they disagree.

While the CFO website has the typical self-protective quasi-legal disclaimer that "the content of the blogs we link to are out of our editorial control - caveat emptor". However, one of the blogs with the most ad hominem attacks is written by a member of their board. At least one other blog is written by someone active in the CasinoFacts organization.

Mudslinging in private is one thing, but these blogs are public. These blogs are an integral part of the CFO website, in fact, they are the most updated parts, and I suspect that if it came down to it the organization would have a difficult time disassociating themselves legally from something slanderous published on a blog they linked to.

Monitoring several blogs or message boards to assure they meet an organization or website's standards for propriety and courtesy is a time consuming task. I am not going to do this. Those who want to continue to read the pro-casino blogs can easily locate then on a web search.

What the CFO chooses to do as far as their blogs is of course their decision. But I have decided to take this position before something comes up that I will regret.

Casino-Friend remains, as it always has been, an open website where I encourage anyone with an opposing opinion to write either a letter to the editor or an OpEd column. These of course are vetted by me. The only rule aside from good taste and civility is that anonymous material will not be published.
